Nonradiative Electronic Deexcitation Time Scales in Metal Clusters

چکیده

The life-times due to Auger-electron emission for a hole on a deep electronic shell of neutral and charged sodium clusters are studied for different sizes. We consider spherical clusters and calculate the Auger-transition probabilities using the energy levels and wave functions calculated in the LocalDensity-Approximation (LDA). We obtain that Auger emission processes are energetically not allowed for neutral and positively charged sodium clusters. In general, the Auger probabilities in small Na−N clusters are remarkably different from the atomic ones and exhibit a rich size dependence. The Auger decay times of most of the cluster sizes studied are orders of magnitude larger than in atoms and might be comparable with typical fragmentation times. 36.40.-c, 32.80.Hd Typeset using REVTEX 1

Pressure-induced two-color photoluminescence in MnF(2) at room temperature.

A novel two-color photoluminescence (PL) is found in MnF(2) at room temperature under high pressure. Contrary to low-temperature PL, PL at room temperature is unusual in transition-metal concentrated materials like MnF(2), since the deexcitation process at room temperature is fully governed by energy transfer to nonradiative centers. We show that room-temperature PL in MnF(2) originates from tw...

Geometric and Electronic Structures of Vanadium Sub-nano Clusters, Vn (n = 2-5), and their Adsorption Complexes with CO and O2 Ligands: A DFT-NBO Study

In this study, electronic structures of ground state of pure vanadium sub-nano clusters, Vn (n=2-5), and their interactions with small ligands for example CO and triplet O2 molecules are investigated by using density functional theory (DFT) calibration at the mPWPW91/QZVP level of theory. The favorable orientations of these ligands in interaction with pure vanadium sub-nano clusters were determ...

Bombardment Induced Electron-Capture Processes at Sodium Halide Surfaces

Discrete features observed in the energy distribution of electrons emitted from ion-bombarded sodium halide surfaces can be attributed to a new type of collisional deexcitation mechanism. Such a mechanism involves sodium atoms in bombardment-excited autoionizing states that are the result of cascade collisions within the crystal lattice. This deexcitation process, in contrast to that for a meta...

Sputtering of Ices by High Energy Particle Impact

Electronic excitation of thin films of molecular and rare gas solids by MeV He and H ions is efficient in causing sputtering. The sputtering yields vary widely for different species, even for those with very similar surface binding energy. The sputtering yields for CO, Ar, and N,, for example, differ by a factor of 10. Even more striking for these three is the dependence of the sputtering yield...

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters

We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
